The moment I saw images of British jellyfish, I was immediately reminded of a very specific scene from this book. It’s dark, seriously, stop reading now if you’re a kid or easily squeamish…
ok then….don’t say I didn’t warn you…
Imagine wading through waist high dark water, only to realize that the pale shapes drifting around you aren’t fish or debris—those things that gently slide over your hands as you move through the water, they’re intestines. Worse, they belong to someone you’re having a conversation with, and somehow this person is still very much alive, half-submerged, their body unravelling piece by piece into the water around them.
It’s one of the most viscerally horrifying things I’ve ever read, and now you get to live with that mental image too. You’re welcome.
